How much can a girl make in the restaurant industry on Oahu, Hawaii?
Hello World,
I’m asking this for my girlfriend. She is new to the island (Oahu) and currently has a decent job. Although it pays $15 an hour, the hours are 3am – 10am (NY stock exchange hours in Hawaii) and it seems to be driving her crazy.
So I’m thinking she might be able to make the same money as a server in Waikiki or somewhere around there… I really dont know how much those girls make though.
She is 26, very smart, very attractive, although she has limited restaurant experience (only about 3 months as a hostess at a high capacity restaurant in Dallas).
Any input helps.

She can always ask around places before she quits her current thing.
With all the young college kids in town (or other 20-somethings), I’d expect a good portion of the waitress type things get grabbed up, especially for any open to those with little or no experience at it (and for those who are newcomers, too). Those working in restaurants also tend to have to rely heavily on tips.
I suppose she might do decently as a bartender somewhere if she’s truly very attractive, but there can be a decent amount of learning various drinks, etc., to go with that.
Anyway, if she already has a decent job that’s assumably stock-related, I’d be careful about giving it up too readily. That’s going to be far better on the resume long term over being a server if she has a choice. Jobs are also notoriously hard to come by in Hawaii, and it wouldn’t surprise me if something like waitressing drives her crazier than what she’s doing currently.
